How Much a Compressed Air Leak Actually Costs
Compressed air is the most expensive utility in a factory and the one that leaks continuously. Generating it converts most of the input electricity into heat, so a leak wastes energy at several times the cost of the equivalent electrical load, and it runs every hour the compressor does, including overnight.
That conversion loss is the fact the whole category depends on and the one most plant managers have never had stated plainly. A leak sounds like a maintenance nuisance until the cost is expressed as the compressor working harder every hour of every shift to supply nothing. One thing to keep off screen is your own savings figures: recovery depends on system pressure, run hours, and how many leaks existed before, so any number needs a named site and a measurement period attached.
