What Berth Productivity Means for the Cargo Owner
Container discharge runs on a plan made before the ship arrives: a stowage sequence agreed with the vessel, quay cranes assigned to bays, internal vehicles cycling between the quay and the yard, and a terminal operating system reassigning moves in real time as the sequence slips. A large crane averages twenty-five to thirty moves an hour.
The whole schedule is built backwards from that number. For a cargo owner, none of it is interesting in itself — but every part of it decides when a container becomes available for collection, which is the only question they are actually asking. An explanation aimed at customers has to run the mechanism forward and land on the pickup time, or it reads as a facility tour. Deliberately left off screen is commercially sensitive material: berth window agreements, per-customer rates, and named carrier volumes stay out of anything published.
