Why Satellite Internet Feels Different From Fibre
Satellite internet sends every request up to a spacecraft and back down to a ground station before it reaches the wider network. That round trip sets the experience apart: a geostationary satellite sits about 35,786 kilometres up and adds roughly half a second of delay, while low-earth-orbit constellations fly a few hundred kilometres up and cut that to tens of milliseconds.
The orbit, not the brand, explains almost everything a customer notices — why video calls behave differently on two services that quote the same download speed, and why weather affects one more than the other. Leading with speed figures invites a comparison the service cannot win against fibre. Leading with orbit and latency sets an expectation the service can actually meet. What should never reach the published cut is spectrum and modulation detail: frequency bands and coding schemes are accurate and will lose a household audience inside one sentence.
