New Housekeeping Attendant Onboarding Workflow

Step-by-step guide on how housekeeping attendants prepare guest rooms safely and efficiently from shift start to final inspection.

Why Room Order Matters More Than Room Speed

Rooms are cleaned in a fixed order for a reason unrelated to speed. Working top to bottom and dry to wet means dust falls onto surfaces not yet cleaned, and cleaned surfaces are never re-contaminated by a later step. An attendant who cleans in the order the room presents itself redoes two or three surfaces without noticing.

Speed follows from order rather than competing with it, which is the opposite of what most new attendants assume. Given a target of fifteen or twenty rooms, a new starter accelerates by skipping the sequence, and gets slower. What should never reach the published cut is anything that identifies guests or rooms: room numbers, lost property records, and anything visible from a real occupied room stay out of a training video entirely.

The template follows one room across seven scenes: one on the trolley and what must be on it before the first door, one on entering an occupied room safely, two on the top-to-bottom sequence for the sleeping area and bathroom, one on chemical handling and dwell times, one on the checks that decide a room is releasable, and one on reporting damage or lost property.

How to Cover a Room Standard in Under Two Minutes

Housekeeping induction is delivered in a corridor, in a language that may not be the attendant's first, minutes before a floor is assigned. Anything long is not watched. The video has to carry the sequence and the safety rules, and let the room standard card carry the detail.

Teach the order as a direction, not a list

Teach the order as a direction, not a list

Top to bottom, dry to wet. Two phrases replace a fourteen-step checklist and are the only part a new attendant needs to hold on the first morning.

Show the entry, because it is the rule most often broken

Knock, announce, wait, announce again, enter. It takes six seconds, and it is the procedure that prevents the complaint no property wants to handle.

Put dwell time on screen as a number

Disinfectants do nothing if wiped off immediately. A stated contact time in minutes is the difference between cleaning and the appearance of cleaning, and it is almost never trained.

End on the release check, not the last surface

A room is finished when it has been looked at from the doorway as a guest would see it. Closing on that step turns a cleaning routine into a quality one.

The room standard is already the script

Upload the room standard, the chemical safety data sheets, or the floor supervisor's inspection checklist. Accepted formats are PDF, DOC, DOCX, PPTX, and TXT, to 200 MB. Every scene stays editable and the original is unchanged.

Fix the Order Before the First Room

Load the room standard the property already publishes and adjust the scenes before the next seasonal intake arrives.
