What a Wetland Does for the Land Around It
A wetland is land where water sits at or near the surface long enough to change the soil and the plants. That saturation is what makes it useful, and it does three things at once: it slows floodwater, filters nutrients and sediment out of what passes through, and stores carbon in waterlogged peat that would decay in a drained field.
The order of those functions matters when teaching, because only the first is intuitive. Flood storage is visible; filtration and carbon storage are consequences of waterlogging that students will not deduce unaided, and they are the reasons drainage is costly long after the field looks productive. Kept out of the video entirely is site-specific ecology: exact locations of protected species, nesting sites, and anything that would guide a visitor to a sensitive area should stay out of published material.
